What did CBHS do as a White Ribbon School for White Ribbon Day 2017?
White Ribbon Day, which is officially on November 25th is an internationally recognised day of action, and calls upon all Australians to stand up, speak out and act to stop men's violence against women.
- In the build up to White Ribbon Day, students from the Kid's Say No program led workshops for students in year 3 to 6 at Hamden Park Public School in partnership with Senior Constable Danny Kidd. Student representatives of the 'Blue Star' PCYC Leadership program, joined Canterbury Public School to advocate for White Ribbon
- Student leaders were involved in the Inner-West LGA White Ribbon activities on Thursday November 23 at Bridgewater Park, Rozelle. We were joined by other Inner-West schools, the NSW Police and inter-agency partners. Our school performed a number of musical items around the theme respectful relationships
- A Day of Education and Action was held for all students on site at CBHS on Friday November 24th. We were met at the school gates by Prefect leaders who gave us all a White Ribbon to wear. Our whole-school assembly was led by our school captains and the Kids Say No student leaders. It involved students taking the Oath, musical performance items and male teachers joining with female teachers and student leaders to run a range of workshops. Senior Constable Danny Kidd spoke to all the class groups. The highlight this year was the White Ribbon mural. All students and staff contributed to the mural as a sign of unity and support.
- We welcomed Diana Humpries (President of the Zonta Club of Sydney West). Ms Humpries spoke to Azim Adit who was the Zonta Sydney West Young Men Standing Against Domestic Violence Award winner for CBHS for 2017.
- Staff and students joined the local community at the fifth Annual Lakemba White Ribbon March ‘Real Men Walk the Talk'. The march ended at Perry Park where there was food, entertainment and White Ribbon performances.
