Youth Frontiers mentoring

The Youth Raise Foundation aims to provide the best-practice mentoring programs. In 2015, the program was successfully tendered with the NSW Government's Department of Education to provide the Youth Frontiers contract in 26 electorates across NSW metro and regional areas.

Canterbury Boys is the high school within our local electorate that is benefitting from this NSW Government initiative. We have participated in 2015 and 2016 and have committed to staying on this path.

How are students selected?

A group of 8 and 9 students are selected each year to be involved in the Youth Frontiers program. Students can self-nominate or be nominated by a CBHS staff member or their parent. They need to agree to be involved.

Raise mentors

Our mentors are highly trained staff from Atlassian and VMware. These corporate companies are both technology companies so the knowledge and wisdom that is passed on from mentor and mentee also aligns to our school priority focus of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

We would like to thank and acknowledge the mentors from Atlassian and VMware and the Raise staff for their time and dedication to our boys.

How are mentors selected?

The Raise Foundation identifies mentors by the following personality traits, when considering candidates:

  • compassionate – that they are able to cultivate relationships based on trust, kindness and confidence
  • honest – that they are dedicated to being sincerity, consistency and integrity
  • innovative – they use fresh approaches which facilitate ongoing improvement
  • respectful – they support people to make their own positive choices and changes
  • professional – they can provide a high standard of service that is personal, responsive and flexible
  • fun – they can motivate people to flourish using positivity and enjoyment.
