You can access the Library Catalogue via your DET student portal
Click on the Oliver / School Library link in your portal
Searching for Resources
1.Decide what you to Search for eg. soccer
2.Choose a search option from Word, Subject, Title, Author, Series, List
3. Type in your search term eg. soccer
4.Click Go
5.From the list select the result closest to your search term eg. Soccer- Fiction or Soccer.
6.From the list of titles, choose the one you want eg. The number 7 shirt by Alan Gibbons or Soccer by Damien Davis.
7.To find your resource you will need to record the Dewey Number eg. F GIB or 796.334 DAV.
8.Go and find your resource on the appropriate shelf.
Locations
The following types of items can be found using the Library Catalogue :
- -nonfiction
- -fiction
- -picture books
- -graphic novels
- -magazines
- -websites
Websites can be accessed by clicking on the link.
All Fiction, picture books, and graphic novels are located in the wide reading area and Non-Fiction in the other areas.
Labels indicate the Dewey numbers for each shelf.
Which search option do I use?
Word |
Looks for matching words anywhere in the title, notes, name, subject |
Subject |
Searches for topics or what the item is about eg. soccer |
Title |
Looks for matching words in the title only. If you are not sure of the exact title, do not use this option. |
Author |
Looks for authors or other contributors. Enter surname first, then first name eg. Shaun Tan (enter Tan, Shaun) |
Series |
Type in the series name to find titles in the series eg. Naruto |
List |
Looks for resource lists with that word. Eg. Year 7-9 NSW Permiers Reading Challenge |
If you cannot find the resource you are looking for then you may need to re-think your search term and/or search using a different option.
