Sydney Story Factory - In Residence at Canterbury Boys High School in 2017 and 2018

We are excited to announce that the Sydney Story Factory, our in-residence learning partner in 2017 will again be working with CBHS students and staff into 2018. We thank and again welcome Richard Short and his story telling team to our great school. In partnership with the Sydney Story Factory, we have developed an exciting program that will support our students creative writing and performance talents.

Evaluation of our in-residence partnership

A bit of a bio about Richard Short, Storyteller-In-Chief

Prior to joining the Sydney Story Factory, Richard taught at secondary schools (English and English as a Second Language) in the western suburbs of Sydney. In 2014, Richard completed a Master of Creative Writing, his poetry has been widely published both in Australia and internationally. He is an Honorary Associate in the Faculty of Education and Social Work, at the University of Sydney, and has lectured in numerous courses including: Creativity, Youth Culture and The Arts; Integrated Arts and Education. We welcome Richard to CBHS.

The Sydney Story Factory is a not-for-profit creative writing centre for young people based in Redfern, Sydney. Since opening our doors in July 2012 the Sydney Story Factory has taken over 8,000 student enrolments. In 2015-16 alone, 12,055 student workshop hours were delivered, with an average of 4.17 hours of tuition per student.

Programs are for young people aged 7 to 17, in primary and high school, and are designed by creative writing and literacy experts. Every day, the Sydney Story Factory sets out to:

  • Run innovative and fun creative writing programs, with expert teaching and one-on-one tutoring.
  • Encourage young people to communicate ideas, giving them more confidence in their skills, themselves and each other.
  • Create and sustain a vital contribution to the community, by respecting and giving voice to the stories around us.
