Canterbury and Hurlstone Park RSL Club Hospitality program

We received the exciting news in 2016 that Canterbury and Hurlstone Park RSL Club (CHPRSL) are sponsoring the costs and delivering a Certificate III industry standard Hospitality program for ten Year 10 students at Canterbury Boys High School. The program will expand to 2017 to include additional volunteering events from our boys at CHPRSL. This will further acknowledge our students presence in local community volunteering initiatives.

The support of parents and families is also a large feature of this scholarship program, with parents invited to both the launch and graduation events. With key school staff, they get to see first-hand what has been achieved by our boys over the fifteen day program which is spread throughout the school year.

How does the program work and what are the benefits for students?

Ms Bursill our Transition Officer walks the students to CHPRSL each session where we are met by Dianne and Kim from the CHPRSL School of Hospitality and Cate Griffiths, the RTO Manager.

Throughout the course of the year, students work through 15 units of competency to gain a full Certificate III in hospitality. This qualification provides our young men with the opportunity to begin a career in Hospitality and gives them necessary employability skills and the ability to work within the industry while pursuing further education. Students are given a workplace mentor at the club and provided that they work well throughout the year, are given a written reference. All 2016 and 2017 recipients have been invited back to CHPRSL for further employment opportunities.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank CHPRSL for their generosity, wisdom and expertise in supporting our school.

How are students selected?

Students are merit-selected to be involved in this program where, academic record, student attendance and student career and transition plans are examined. This is another example of the way Canterbury Boys High School nurtures our boys talents and individualises the school experience for students.

If you would like further information on this program or if you wish your son to be considered, please contact the school's Transition Advisor, Ms Patricia Bursill on 02 9798 8444. Ms Bursill works on a Monday and Tuesday.
