"REAL MEN WALK THE TALK".

Both students and staff at Canterbury Boys High School are taking a lead role in helping to raise awareness of violence against women by being involved in numerous White Ribbon Day events, raising awareness for White Ribbon Australia.
We proudly became a White Ribbon School earlier this year after participating in the Breaking the Silence program and based on our reputation, we have been requested by local schools and both the Canterbury-Bankstown and Inner-West LGA's to be heavily involved in this year's events.
White Ribbon Day, which is officially on November 25th is an internationally recognised day of action, and calls upon all Australians to stand up, speak out and act to stop men's violence against women.
Our commitment to White Ribbon
The White Ribbon Breaking the Silence program enables schools to build on existing initiatives to further strengthen a culture of respect and equality at all levels of the school community – through curriculum, role modelling from staff, policies and procedures, domestic violence education programs and strengthened family and community partnerships
Our commitment to White Ribbon builds on student participation in the nationally recognised 8-week program led by Senior Constable Danny Kidd of Belmore PCYC. Year 9 and 10 students have been taught the importance of healthy relationships and the skills they need to be positive advocates in society. The school has been inspired by Senior Constable Kidd's passion and commitment and the leadership program included presentations by high profile speakers such as Andrew O'Keefe (White Ribbon Ambassador), Johanna Griggs (Beyond Blue Board member) and domestic violence survivors including Angela Barker and Kay Schubach. This year, we have also been involved in the 'Love Bites' program ran by NAPCAN. Read more about this at: http://www.canterburb-h.schools.nsw.edu.au/curriculum-activities/extra-curricular/student-wellbeing/love-bites
What will CBHS be doing as a White Ribbon School for White Ribbon Day?
- In the build up to White Ribbon Day, students from the Kid's Say No program have led workshops for students in year 3 to 6 at Hamden Park Public School in partnership with Senior Constable Danny Kidd.
- Student leaders will be involved in the Inner-West LGA White Ribbon activities on Thursday November 23 from 9am to 12pm at Bridgewater Park, Rozelle. We will be joined by other Inner-West schools, the NSW Police and inter-agency partners. Our school will perform a musical item at this day created by our students about respectful relationships
- A Day of Action for all students will be held on Friday November 24 at CBHS. This will be led by CBHS staff, Senior Constable Danny Kidd and the Kids Say No leaders. It will involve students taking the Oath, musical performance items and male teachers joining with the student leaders to jointly run a range of workshops. We welcome Diana Humpries (President of the Zonta Club of Sydney West) to our assembly to present Azim Adit the Zonta Sydney West Young Men Standing Against Domestic Violence Award for 2017.
- Staff, students and families will then join the local community at the fifth Annual Lakemba White Ribbon March ‘Real Men Walk the Talk' later that night. The march leaves from Gilles Street Lakemba and participants are asked to register at 5:30pm for a 6pm start. The march will end at Perry Park where there will be food, entertainment and White Ribbon performances. If you would like to join us, please contact Ms Player, Deputy Principal on 9798-9444.
Further information from White Ribbon Australia
White Ribbon Australia encourages involvement in White Ribbon Day activities. Attending local events, taking the White Ribbon Oath, and wearing a white ribbon throughout November are easy ways to make a difference. Funds raised will go towards supporting White Ribbon's national primary prevention initiative, which aims to stop violence before it occurs, through education programs in schools, workplaces and the broader community.
