Principal's message

Dear parents and care givers,

As the Principal of Canterbury Boys High School I feel tremendously privileged and honoured to be the leader of such a great school. A school that recently celebrated its 100 year anniversary  and have alumni such as Dr George Peponis, Arthur Morris MBE  and The Honourable John Howard. I often find myself wandering the hallways admiring the old photos  and immense history this school has that must be the envy of all other schools in the area.

When you visit our school, one of the first things you will notice is how calm, polite, and well-mannered the students are around the school. There is a strong sense of community and belonging from both the staff and the students and it is from that strength that we set our high expectations in the classroom.

I make no apologies for being very clear that all the while I am the Principal of Canterbury Boys High School I will have high expectations for every student in the classroom. Put simply if you are not a serious learner then Canterbury Boys High School is not the school for you.

We have developed amazing connections with universities in our local area.  From the University of New South Wales who work closely with our junior years to help them gain entry into University. Due to programs like this, and the dedication of the staff, it was with great pleasure that I inform you that in 2020, 91.25% of students who set University as a goal were successful and will start their degree in 2021. This is an amazing result, one I am very proud of as a Principal.

We will celebrate our successes with our parents. This will be done with phone calls, awards on assemblies and sharing stories on social media and through our engagement with our local communities. We have great students at this school and a crucial element in their success is through ensuring that families and community are part of their educational journey. I want our families and community to be our strongest advocates as well as collectively embrace our motto of Truth and Honour. As Principal I want every day to be engaging and enriching and full of academic curiosity. Working with our families we will have Canterbury boys ready for the rapidly changing future through a focus on critical thinking , creativity, innovation and collaboration. My staff and I are ambitious for them to meet their ambitions, be it about their entry into university, further education or a career of their choosing.

I thank you for taking the time to visit our website and I invite you to experience Canterbury Boys High School for yourself. Visits to the school occur regularly throughout school terms and provide a wonderful opportunity to meet our staff, hear about our exceptional learning programs and see how the facilities and resources of the School assist our students in their learning journey.

Yours Sincerely,

Mr Ross Dummett
